Sales & Marketing

Rootcity Press is an independent micro-publisher located in Seattle, Washington.

Alanna Peterson founded Rootcity Press after being active in the food justice community. She believes in the power of storytelling, and in the importance of backing up her words with concrete actions. So when it came time to build a publishing business to share her writing with the world, she wanted it to reflect the values she lifts up in her novels.

As such, Rootcity Press operates on a not-for-profit model, and donates a portion of all proceeds to grassroots-based organizations focused on racial justice and food equity. Our aim is to not only bring you great stories, but to help those in our community who are doing important work.

We want to contribute to meaningful social change by doing our small part to create the world we want to see.

We Need Diverse Books

10% of all proceeds from the Rootcity Press Store go to We Need Diverse Books™! WNDB is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and a grassroots organization of children’s book lovers that advocates essential changes in the publishing industry to produce and promote literature that reflects and honors the lives of all young people.

Real Rent Duwamish

Real Rent calls on people who live and work in Seattle to make rent payments to the Duwamish Tribe. Though the city named for the Duwamish leader Chief Seattle thrives, the Tribe has yet to be justly compensated for their land, resources, and livelihood. You can stand in solidarity with First Peoples of this land by paying Real Rent.
